Fairbanks City Tour

A simple tour of Fairbanks is about 2 hours long. We recommend the following optional stops, which would bring the total tour time to three hours.

Optional Fairbanks stops (additional admission costs apply):
Large Animal Research Center
UAF Museum of the North
El Dorado Gold Mine
Riverboat Discovery
Fairbanks is situated on the Chena River.
Fun Facts
"Blue Babe" is one of the most famous residents of the UAF Museum. He is a 36,000 year old bison mummy.
In June, Fairbanks has an average of 20.9 hours of light a day.
When an Alaskan says he is going "outside," he means that he is leaving the state.
Pipeline
The Trans-Alaska Pipeline is very visable in Fairbanks. Get close up and hear stories about the the people who built is and how it is maintained.

Goldrush
Gold was discovered in the Fairbanks area in 1902 by Felix Pedro. Alaska is rich in minerals such as gold. You can pan for gold at El Dorado Gold Mine or take a tour of Gold Dredge #8 to learn more about how gold changed the interior of Alaska. They are still finding large amounts of gold in the area at Fort Knox Gold Mine.
